Screening of documentary about Vsevolod Saderatsky "I’m free"

Venue: The Kaliningrad Regional Scientific Library

The documentary of Anastasia Yakubek “I’m free” was produced under the support of the National Foundation for Support of Right Holders.

The 60 minutes movie features the life and creative work of a composer and writer Vsevolod Saderatsky (1891-1953). Only in XXI century the creative body of his work was classed as a unique artistic phenomenon of the past century.

Today the works of Saderatsky are performed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, other cities of Russia, in the cities of Ukraine, Germany, France, Great Britain, Switzerland, Holland, Israel, USA, Canada…The reason behind this late recognition consists in his his unorthodox biography and an intentional suppression of his name during the Soviet time.

Alexandra Yakubek said: “We have witnessed his story unveiled before our eyes. The story that could not be invented. A brilliant graduate of the Moscow Conservaitore and Moscow University, a piano teacher of the Tsar’s son Alexei, an officer under the command of Anton Denikin, he was taken POW and survived under Dzerzhinsky’s “live alive” resolution. He roamed around provincial cities, got arrested. The most terrifying arrest was in 1937 when he was sent to the prison camp of Sevvostlag in Kolyma.

He didn’t only stay human under inhuman conditions, he wrote a musical piece which is triumphantly performed today in the finest halls of the world – a cycle of 24 preludes and fugues. He was the first composer after S. Bach to write such a set.

This amazing and tragic story opens up the world of classical music. I’m convinced that every person to watch this movie would want to listen to the music of Saderatsky.”

The composer’s life is a reflection of the given historical period. The director managed to recreate both the biography and the spirit of the epoch, or rather, of different epochs – from pre-revolutionary Russia to the present day. The film crew – the film director Anastasia Yakubek, the cameraman Rustam Akhmetov, the computer graphics artist Anna Fidrya – were awarded with bronze Orpheus, Teffi’s special regional award. They have been working on this movie for a year-and-a-half as a crew. The filming locations include Magadan and the Magadan region, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Kursk and Lviv.

Today, when even families would be outing to their live gigs, the voice of Alexander Krasovitsky’s has become one of the most distinctive in his generation. Since its inception 18 year ago the band shared a stage with Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Garbage and Rasmus, Clawfinger and Rollins Band.

A Pure Desi Romance

melodrama, comedy, 2013

(Russian premiere of 2017)

This film tells a story of three young men who would prioritize love over public opinion. Raghu, a tour guide in Jaipur, seeks love of his life, and that’s it. How is he going to make it, he is going to learn step by step.

Gayatri works as an ESL teacher at the University. She is one of those for whom being in a relationship with its pros and cons is not a  tempting idea any longer….

Tara passionately wants to find her love and she even knows what she is looking for, but experiments won’t do anyone any harm. All the three characters meet by chance, and their beliefs and love get tested.

We all want mutual attraction, love, long-lasting relationships. However, we do not always recognize things when they get real. “A Pure Desi Romance” is a romantic comedy which is going to show everything as it is in reality and as it doesn’t. This is a true story of how strikingly deep the abyss separating love, attraction, and commitment can be.
